Plants for desert

What are the best plants for growing in a desert?

General

The best plants for growing in a desert mostly belong to the cactus family Cactaceae. These plants have round stems that store a lot of water and hence this is the reason why many survivor experts use these plants as a source of water. These are usually called succulent plants in the general language. Non-succulent perennials such as Cistus albidus are also capable of escaping drought due to their hardy nature. But drought will still hamper their growth and they will become short. Ephemerals are plants that have a drought escaping nature. They can survive drought in between rainfalls but will wither if they don\’t receive rainfall for more than 6 months.

If you are planning to grow plants that don\’t require water or very little at the most then the best bet you will go with are succulents and cactuses. These plants are not only hardy but also look brilliant adding to the feel and look of your garden.
